Introducing Vesprah
A new app aimed at providing wisdom and fresh perspective when you need it most.
ves·prah /ˈvesprə/ noun · the quiet moment in which the right words find you
Across every era and culture, the wisest among us wrote down their experiences and thoughts. Most of us never read their words. Not because they're hidden, but because each of us was born into one single tradition and rarely thought to look beyond it. Until now.
A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to hear Cardinal Silvano Maria Tomasi speak about migration. He didn't frame it as a problem. He talked about migrants as bearers of wisdom, people carrying traditions, cultures, entire ways of understanding life, wherever they went.
The Cardinal is one of those rare minds shaped by centuries of accumulated thought: by Augustine and Aquinas, by scripture and scholarship, by decades spent watching how human beings treat one another across every kind of divide. A giant. But one who stands, as all the great ones do, on the shoulders of other giants.
Because that is the nature of wisdom. It doesn't necessarily begin with any single person, or tradition or century. It isn't fully formed at the beginning. It builds. The Upanishads shaped the Buddha. The Greeks shaped the Stoics. The Stoics shaped early Christian thought. Rumi read Plato. The threads cross every border we've ever drawn. It seems a waste not to follow them.
And yet most of us are born into one tradition and rarely look beyond it.
Vesprah is my small attempt to change that.
It's simple. You share what you're sitting with right now: anxiety, grief, a decision you can't make, something you can't name. It asks you one follow-up question. Then it finds a passage chosen because it speaks to exactly what you're feeling.
This is not a wellness app. It is not a daily affirmation generator. It is not a fortune cookie dressed up in serif font.
It is an attempt to make centuries of genuine human wisdom, the kind written by people who had actually suffered and thought deeply and tried to make sense of being alive, findable in the moment when you need it most.
A few honest disclosures:
This is the first thing I've ever built like this. I am not a developer. I'm sure I have made mistakes and will make more. The app works, genuinely, but it is early and imperfect. Please manage expectations accordingly.
I'll be honest: I'm a little nervous putting this out into the world. It was built with good intentions but you never quite know how something like this will be received. I suppose that's true of most things worth doing.
I would love for you to try it. And I would especially love your honest feedback. What worked. What didn't. What felt like real wisdom and what felt like it missed the mark.
And if it helps even one person see something differently in a quiet moment, that's enough for me.

I just tried it and it was a lovely excuse to pause, reflect and reframe the feeling. I also love that it uses a wide array of teachings and faiths. No doubt showing more similarities than differences amongst them and amongst the human experience. I think this is a wonderful idea and will be very well received. 🙏
I gave this a try and was very impressed. AI searching for snippets of wisdom that can help soothe ones mind, depending on what`s going on for the individual in need of comfort and reassurance.
